Open Source Collaboration

Alien map was a collaboration with two other designers and I. We used an open source program called “gimp” & wanted to bring awareness to net neutrality. This project was designed with chroma-depth glasses & should be viewed with them. When we were exploring the different open source softwares, we were immediately drawn to gimp. The hilarity of the tools inspired a post-modern approach to our imagery and messaging. Themes of confusion and sarcasm were an easy match with the psychedelic palette created by the alien map feature. Because of the complicated subject matter that comes with a contemporary issue like net neutrality, we needed to embrace internet culture and entertain and inform the viewer while expressing our own opinion.

The Rules

1. Alien map.
2. Mister pixel.
3. When in doubt pep it out.
4. Alien map again.

ChromaDepth Glasses

These glasses alter your vision and give you a new perspective on view. They give the illusion of colors taking up different positions in space, with the color red being in front, and the color blue being back. This makes the image pop out of the screen. Our design decisions were very dependent on the glasses capabilities.
